| AAC Firearms Preemption Proposal |
(NEW) (a) No municipality may regulate, restrict or license the ownership, possession, use, purchase, sale, transportation or transfer of firearms, firearm ammunition or firearm components, nor may any municipality maintain or enact any ordinance or regulation which in any way regulates, restricts, prohibits, licenses or affects the ownership, possession, use, purchase, sale, transportation or transfer of firearms, firearms ammunition or firearm components except as otherwise provided in state or federal law.
(b) Laws relating to the aforementioned subject matter as provided for in the general statutes are the subjects of exclusive state jurisdiction, are intended to fully occupy the areas described therein and preempt any city or town or political subdivision thereof from legislating on these matters except such as have been expressly granted to them by the state.
(c) A municipality shall not define activities specified in this section as constituting a public nuisance or detrimental to public health and safety.
(d) The provisions of this section shall supercede any inconsistent ordinances or regulations enacted by local governments.
